Deep Tissue
massage
is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or
fascia. This type of massage
focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles.
Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience
consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, such as athletes, and
clients who have sustained physical injury.
Deep tissue work varies greatly.
What one calls deep tissue another will call light.
When receiving deep tissue work it is important to communicate what you
are feeling.
Aromatherapy means "treatment
using scents". It is a holistic
approach to caring for the body with therapeutic essential oils.
Essential oils are aromatic essences extracted from plants, flowers,
trees, fruits, bark, grasses and seeds with distinctive therapeutic,
psychological, and physiological properties, which improve and prevent illness.
During a massage session accompanied by Aromatherapy, the therapist will
select each essential oil based on a person’s needs.
Calming and soothing scents such as lavender, balsam fir, chamomile, and
tangerine are inhaled directly, added to massage oil, or diffused in the air.
Essential oils can affect the mood, alleviate fatigue, reduce anxiety,
and promote relaxation. When
inhaled, they work on the brain and nervous system through stimulation of the
olfactory nerves. Research is
showing that Aromatherapy can be effective for the relief of pain as well as to
rejuvenate the skin, alleviate tension and fatigue, and to invigorate the entire
body.
Foot
Reflexology
is a holistic approach to the body
through the feet using zones and reflex
points that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the
body. Pressure
is applied to all areas of the feet with specific thumb, finger and hand
techniques without the use of oil or lotion.
The zones and reflex points create a
map of the body on the feet and
by stimulating these areas we are able to promote balance and well-being.
This is a great alternative to massage therapy.
Hot
stone massage uses smooth,
heated stones to massage the body.
Stones are basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well and
feels soothing on the skin.
The heat from
the stones relaxes muscles and increases blood flow, increasing circulation and
calming the mind.
Heated stones are also placed on specific
points along the spine, in the palms of hands, on the belly, and between toes to
improve the flow of energy in the body.
Sometimes cold stones are combined with hot stones to alleviate
inflammation or muscle injury, and to relieve sinus pressure.
